Trade and the summits

Tariffs, market access and supply chains sit at the center of the 2026 summit year. We track what leaders and business groups ask for, and what it means for companies that buy, make and sell across borders.

Is your company solving this? Put it in front of the ministers and government officials, delegations, embassies, CEOs and NGOs working on it. See where your company fits →

Why it matters

Trade has been part of the G7 since its first meeting in 1975, and every G20 leaders’ declaration since 2008 has addressed it. In 2026 the subject is sharper than it has been in decades: tariffs are being used as tools of economic and security policy, supply chains are being rebuilt around trusted partners, and the World Trade Organization’s rule book is under strain.

For business, the summit process matters because it is where governments signal direction before they legislate. The B20 trade task force, APEC trade ministers and G20 trade ministerial all produce recommendations and statements that shape tariff schedules, customs rules and investment screening in the months that follow.

On the summit agenda

Supply-chain resilience

Small-business access

Cutting customs costs and paperwork so smaller firms can export.
