Debt and the global economy

Growth, inflation, interest rates and sovereign debt are the original business of the G20, which began as a meeting of finance ministers and central bank governors in 1999.

Is your company solving this? Put it in front of the ministers and government officials, delegations, embassies, CEOs and NGOs working on it. See where your company fits →

Why it matters

The G20 finance track meets several times a year to review the world economy, global imbalances and risks to financial stability. Its work feeds the leaders’ declaration and the agendas of the IMF, World Bank and Financial Stability Board.

Debt is a pressing concern for many low- and middle-income countries, where interest costs crowd out spending on health, education and infrastructure. The G20 Common Framework for debt treatment, and efforts to make restructurings faster and more predictable, remain on the agenda.

On the summit agenda

Global growth and imbalances

How trade tensions, interest rates and currency moves affect the outlook.

Sovereign debt

Faster, fairer restructurings and better debt transparency.

Financial stability

Risks from non-bank finance, AI and cyber threats flagged by the Financial Stability Board.

International tax

Cooperation on how multinational companies are taxed.
