Why it matters
Shocks to energy, shipping and weather pass quickly into food prices, and the poorest households feel them first. Summits have responded with commitments on fertilizer supply, open agricultural trade, stocks and support for smallholder farmers.
APEC economies are working on digital tools for farmers and smoother food trade, while COP increasingly treats food systems as part of climate action. For agribusiness, food companies and lenders, the issues are input costs, export restrictions, climate resilience and deforestation-free supply chains.
On the summit agenda
Fertilizer and inputs
Keeping fertilizer affordable and supply diversified.
Open food trade
Avoiding export bans and reducing barriers that raise prices.
Climate-resilient farming
Water, seeds, insurance and finance for farmers facing extreme weather.
Nutrition and access
Reaching vulnerable households, including through the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty.
