Why it matters
The G20 has set targets to make cross-border payments cheaper, faster, more transparent and more accessible, and central banks are testing new payment infrastructure. At the same time, payments fraud and cybercrime are rising, and the finance track has widened its focus to cover them.
Business groups are pressing for interoperable rules on data, digital identity and cybersecurity so that companies do not face conflicting requirements in every market. APEC has long worked on digital trade facilitation for its member economies.
